Question 1 : Tell us about yourself ? common interview questions, job interview questions, interview questions and answers, mechanical engineering interview questions
Answer: Start with your name, followed by educational details like qualification, college, marks secured, year, major accomplishments etc, followed by brief about your family and conclude it with your hobbies and strengths. By asking this question the interviewer wants to know your resume which otherwise he would have to read. Hence always highlight your strongest points with the answer to this "not so innocent" question.
Question 2 : What is your favourite subject & why ?
Answer: Always go into any interview preparing well about three major graduation subjects. Don't only tell their names but also the justifications and reasons for why are they you favourite subjects. Example: If Heat Transfer is your favourite subject because you love the practical aspect of the subject and you chose to do your Major/Minor project in it.
All good companies want to interview you on your strong points and not your weak points. Hence the well prepared answer to this question and the subsequent subject questions can seal your interview fate. Hence prepare well three major subjects as an answer to this question.
When you answer what is your favourite subject, Interviewer definitely ask basic questions from that subject to check your interest & whether you truly answered or not. So be prepared with basic concepts & questions of favourite subject. A good answering round for these question and well - "Congratulations".
Question 3 : What do you know about our company ?
Answer: The interviewer expects you to know at least the basic background about the company in which you are appearing for the interview. The answer to this question shows your seriousness and commitment towards the job. Hence before going for the interview at least:
Question 4 : What are your biggest strengths? What will you bring to the team?
Answer: An important part of answering this questions is showing self awareness and humility. Nobody wants to work with someone who thinks they are 100% perfect so make sure you show that you're human. I think it's more of a red flag to have no flaws (versus giving an honest answer when that question is asked).
Choose about 2-3 strengths that are relevant to predicting your success at the job and company. Carefully read the job posting and talk to current employees. Find out if their are common strengths that lead people to excel in the role.
Stay away from overly generic and lazy answers, like “I'm a team player” Instead, give solid examples of how your relationship building, research and clear communication brought it and retained top clients at your last job. Highlight common themes in your achievements, and link them to tangible results. This question is basically: Why should we hire you?
Question 5 : What is your biggest weakness? OR Why I should not hire you?
Answer: An important part of answering this questions is showing self awareness and humility. Nobody wants to work with someone who thinks they are 100% perfect so make sure you show that you're human and please don't say that you don't have any weakness. Also, this is not an opportunity to pour out your darkest secrets. This is a question that is best played down with a genuine answer.
You should select a weakness that you have been actively working to overcome. For example: I’m a beginner at Ansys, but I’d like to learn more advanced techniques. I’ve signed up for a course that will help me improve.
Talk about a true weakness and show what you are doing to overcome it. Don't bluff.
Question 6 : Why you want to join our company ?
Answer: Please don't stammer or blabber for this question. This is an area where a mature and realistic answer is expected. People choose their career and hence the company based on several reasons, such as:
Mention things you like about the company in general, and then talk specifically about how your skill set would be a good fit for the company’s mission. This is also a good opportunity to mention some good things you might have heard about the company from friends or acquaintances.
Question 9 :Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Answer: This question is not when you start throwing in fancy designations. Instead, be realistic, humble and concentrate on the kind of roles people in those designations are expected to play. If the question specifically asks for your professional goals then stick to it, otherwise it is a good idea to balance it with your personal goals and enhancement of educational qualifications etc. But be sure that the answer to this question should not imply that you are going the leave the company anytime soon.
Question 8 : Questions regarding your minor & major projects?
Answer: When answering this question be precise and to the point. Start with the Aim, Literature Survey brief results, Methodology, Results and Applications, Advantages, Disadvantages & Future Scope. Be prepared with conclusion of the topic and a few follow up questions that you should be able to answer.
Question 7 : Where & What you have learned from your industrial trainings?
Answer: To answer this question, starting from where & in which department you get your industrial trainings, work flow of that department, working process, advantages, disadvantages, information about product, various types of problems. You can add your experience what you have from training.
Question 10: Technical Questions
Answer: Core companies always tend to ask a lot of technical questions usually in the subjects of your interest or your major/minor projects. Prepare three subjects well and go for the kill.
Always answer technical questions with great details and preferably using a paper-pencil/pen. jot down the steps. Scribble on a piece of paper the answers. The interviewers usually get impressed by such candidates.
Apart from above, the interviewee should always be ready for surprises. Few stress questions can always be asked to judge your temperament and attitude. Always maintain your calm and be pragmatic in an interview. Some of the stress questions can be:
1. What are your options if we don't hire you ?
2. How often have you been absent from college, work or training ?
3. Have you ever had trouble with other people on the job/ college ?
4. Why your marks have been so low?
5. Don't you feel you are a little to old/young for this job ?
6. If I say that you are not fit for the job what would your reaction be?
7. With your background, we believe that you are overqualified to join this institute.
8. You haven't had sufficient experience in this field.
9. Our experience with women on this job has not been good.
10. Your communication skills are not good.
11. What would irritate you most if I as a manager I did it ?
12. Describe a situation where it was most important for you to display tact and diplomacy.
13. Tell me about the last time you had a clash or disagreement with someone at school/college/workplace.
14. Is that the best answer you can give? (following your answer to a recently asked question)
15. Interviewer: "I'm sorry but I don't know that I completely understand your answer. Could you please clarify?"
16. How would you evaluate me as an interviewer?
17. Can you please explain why you've been unemployed so long?
18. What kind of people do you struggle to work with?
19. Why aren't you earning more at your age?
20. What do you feel this position should pay?
21. How successful do you've been so far?
How to Respond to Stress Interview Questions???
Remember the interviewer is trying to evaluate your temperament and aptitude by making you answer some really silly questions. The answer to these questions are only subjective. Keep your calm and respond to an irritating question as you would any other, and you will demonstrate the ability to remain calm and handle stressful situations.
Rely on these strategies to effectively respond to questions:
People are put through stress questions only if they are having a fair chance of being hired. Hence, don't blow up your chances by falling into the trap. Be humble, thruthful, calm, open & receptive.

1. Be Positive, Truthful, Concise, Confident and Rehearse your subjects well:
Always remember that the interviewer is a very very smart individual who’s job is to hire good candidates after interviewing them. They come across candidates like you on a daily basis and their interview experience is immensely more than yours. They are looking for candidates who are different from the lot and who have the zeal and enthusiasm to excel. Never try to bluff them, as a dishonest person will be the last candidate in their list of probable candidates. They are actually not looking for brilliant candidate who knows all and tells all, but what they are really looking to is the readiness to learn and execute with full enthusiasm.
Your goal in any interview should always be authenticity, responding truthfully to interview questions. At the same time, your goal is to get to the next step, so you’ll want to provide focused responses that showcase your skills, experience, and fit with the job and the employer. Provide solid examples of solutions and accomplishments but keep your responses short and to the point.
Never ever speak ill or badmouth a previous employer, boss, or co-worker. It presents a very negative aspect of your personality. The interview is about you and making your case that you are the ideal candidate for the job.
Never talk for more than 2 minutes straight for non-explanatory types of questions.
2. Sell Yourself and Don't pretend you're perfect
Always remember that any interview is all about marketing yourself. The most intelligent and qualified applicant is not always the one who is hired; the winning candidate is often the jobseeker who does the best job responding to interview questions and showcasing his or her fit with the job, department, and organization. What You are selling to the employer, in the interview is your ability to fill the organization’s needs, solve its problems, propel its success. Also remember- Don't oversell yourself too.
3. Dress for Success, Arrive on Time, Relaxed and Prepared for the Interview
Never be late and always be formally dressed for an interview. These are the basic etiquettes an interviewer expects from you. Accessories and jewelries are a strict NO. Try not to smoke or eat right before the interview and if possible, brush your teeth or use mouthwash.
4. Review Common Interview Questions and Prepare Your Responses
Don′t try to memorize answers word for word. Prepare well for commonly asked questions in your own words and thougth's. Be original. The interviewer gets bored listening to the same old rotten answers again and again.
